The Bellbird or “Korimako”, an endemic songbird to New Zealand, lives amongst native forest. Their song varies regionally, but only heard when many birds are present at once.
I became absolutely transfixed with the one at an old house. At a time when I got really low mentally, watching him eating the pollen from trees surrounding our deck provided so much joy.. He’d start singing at 5am most mornings and was so hilariously territorial… They’re such beautiful little birds and by far my favourite in Aotearoa.
